ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her and her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan was a multi-sport athlete throughout her childhood but did not play soccer until she was 14. After high school, Morgan joined Cypress Elite's team. They took home the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and finished third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to work at Diamond Bar High School, where she worked on her soccer abilities. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) picked Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She was also a part of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan advanced her soccer skills at UC Berkeley, where she was the leader of the California Golden Bears team in scoring right from the start of their first season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice into the second round. Morgan was one of four finalists for Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. When she graduated early in 2010, Morgan was ranked third in all-time goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan played soccer at the collegiate and national level throughout her college. Morgan suffered an injury to her ACL in her first season with Berkeley. This kept her from taking part in U.S. women's under-20 soccer until April 2008. In Mexico Morgan scored her debut international soccer goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan played in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Her team won an Olympic gold medal. She also scored her first international goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. One of them was an important win goal against Italy that resulted in the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player on the team and he led it to victory against France. Morgan, despite U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both a goal or assist.
