Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was a Pasadena, California native. When she was three years older, her family members moved to America. Summer attended American and British schools and her family was living in the United States. They returned to Pasadena just prior to her birthday, which was on 14th September. Summer was only five years old when she was captivated by acting and began her first acting class. Nine months later, she was signed by an agent and an manager and began to follow her career full-time. When she isn't working, she is enrolled in college and working towards completing her degree. Named one of the "Ten Actors to Watch" by Variety (2007). Nominated for Best Actress – Spirit Award. When she was 14 Bishil began acting lessons. Within an entire year, she was hired by an agency and manager. Bishil was first seen in the Nickelodeon television series Just for Kicks. She has since appeared in various other children's programs. In 2007, she played the lead in Alan Ball’s film Towelhead, an adaptation of his novel. Slate critic Dana Stevens said, "Her performance is the truest thing in a movie that, in spite of its noble intentions, feels thoroughly phony and mildly embarrassing, like an extended PSA concerning inappropriate touching." Bob Strauss, a Los Angeles journalist for a newspaper, said that Bishil "...is among the top natural actors of recent times. Gary Goldstein in a September 12 Los Angeles Times review of the film Towelhead and stated that "...newcomer Summer Bishil turns into a confident, riveting performance as Jasira. She filmed Wayne Kramer’s Crossing Over project in 2009, starring Harrison Ford and Ray Liotta. Jay Reiner of the Associated Press liked her portrayal. She was selected to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan’s 2010 film The Last Airbender. This was to be the primary subject of the planned but never released sequel.
