Patricia Velásquez
Creativity goes beyond the photographic,
canvas as well as film and other media. It also serves as an engine to
philanthropy, charity, or activism. Patricia Velasquez is an award-winning
supermodel, actress, and actor. Also, she is a fervent donor. Author activist,
author, and a loving mother. She is a strong believer in intuition , and a
pioneer in her own direction. "I see my work as an endless
staircase," she said. "I did every step up. It was truly amazing to
do so, since there was a long-term effect. I simply put my head down, took one
step at the pace, and didn't stop." The metaphor directly resembles a
formative experience. Born in Venezuela but growing up in France and Mexico and
then moved to Venezuela after a handful of years. In South America her parents
worked in education. They relocated their family into an apartment block
without running water or elevators. Patricia often carried heavy buckets of
water for 15 flights of stairs in order to get water. She tried to assist her
family as much as she could despite pursuing engineering as well as pursuing a
dance education. The opportunity to model was offered to her in Milan, the
multi-talented artist's climb to the top of the fashion industry was based on a
promise she made to those she loved. She recalls being asked to travel to Italy
by the fashion industry. "If I could afford to send thirty dollars per
month back to Venezuela, it would be worth it since that would provide all the
water in the building." Patricia's triumph was an important moment in
fashion as she drew the attention of fashion industry professionals to South
America for the first time. Patricia was able to make headlines upon becoming
"the first model Karl Lagerfeld ever photographed" and then going on
to walk in shows, be a part of editorial spreads and advertisements for front
pages of Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Chloe, Cover Girl, and
Victoria's Secret among several. Her appearances on Oprah's Supermodel of the
World contest as well as Ford Models’ "Supermodel of the World"
contest were a hit around the world. She was also featured on the front covers
of Marie Claire, Bazaar and Vogue.
